Default Help identify this piston

Hello Fam, this is a piston out of my 2009 xl883l i Need to know if this is a 1200, 1250, or 883. The cams are 1200 because of the W on them. This piston blew out and I’ve always said it’s been converted but never cracked the head to check until now. And still don’t know, I can’t find these numbers anywhere and don’t know what to measure to figure it out. I’m not an expert mechanic but I’ve taught myself everything from the ground up and this girl has never seen a shop for anything paint, body, or performance. And we ain’t starting now. Question if this is a 883 piston I need to get 1200 heads and 1250 pistons right? Why half *** it and with the cams being for 1200 already how will I know if my rockers and lifters are up to 1200 already or if they need changed? Thank you all in advance for your help with this.

What's the bore size ?

1200 should have 3.5" bore, 883 should be 3" give or taker a hair

That is something your machinist will tell you, but it looks like a doorstop to me.

You are planning to split the cases, right?

With that type of damage, a complete tear down and rebuild is necessary, splitting the cases. When that happens, new cylinders, heads, pistons etc. are your choice of size to go with. May be more economical to find a donor engine and install it; however, VIN number would need to be addressed at your DMV.

Engines done my friend, it's coming completely apart, I can see damage on top the rod in one picture and the lowerend is full of metals fragments as chewed as that piston got. Cylinder looked gouged enough it isn't cleaning up.

Reminds me of the #3 piston on my VW van after it sucked an exhaust valve. Complete teardown required.

Only if the engine serial number is on the title and registration.

There is no law that says the numbers must match.
