If the OP has a Custom Sportster, he will most likely have to change the instrument harness as well as the speedometer mounting bracket.

Aye, wee man, I did read those two posts, but I thought I'd elaborate them a bit by adding the different H-D part numbers for the wiring harness just in case he needs them.

It's always better if the thread starter states the year and exact model of their Sportster, it makes it a lot easier for the rest of us to help them find a solution.

WKNDS, What height risers did you use on this bike? I take it they were a pull back style? Any issue seeing over the clamp and risers to see the speedometer? Thanks......

Yeah, bad pic for showing that angle, I think I have a side-shot somewhere. The risers are 4.5" with 1.5" pullback.
Anything less than 4.5" with that pullback will hit the tank. Note that I do not have any 'tank lift', it is stock.
I have no issues seeing the speedo, again the angle that the above pic was taken doesn't really show the
'view' you would get sitting on the seat. In the above pic, I just wanted to show that the indicators had
been relocated to the Joker Machine handlebar clamp.

Here's a really old pic from when the bike was lowered for my wife that better shows the gauge/riser set up.
It's not a great pic, but its the best pic I have from that sort of angle...

T.

Wouldn't mind finding a set up off a 48 like the one below to see what it would look like
on a set of 3-1/2" Pull Back Risers.

It would be nice to have the mount that also incorporates the warning lights. Looking to do something similar like:

That looks good. Only thing I dislike about the Customs is the speedo under the bars.

That piece appears to be HD #71980-10 and at Surdyke, it is ~$103.00

hth,

Would be great if I could buy it from Surdyke, but they sent me a notice last fall summer that
they are no longer allowed to sell Harley parts outside of their territory. My local dealer wants
$165 for it.

I ask a dealer have you got an item in stock. If no I try and negotiate a discount on the basis the item isn't going to cost them anything as it is straight in and out. I will pay upfront if it helps.

That really stinks! You might ask them why they are marking it up ~$30 when the
offical HD service parts website lists it for ~$137.75.
