Interresting post. I've been thinking of using a cleaner in my bike also. I got a load of "BAD" gas a month ago and had to pull my tank and replace the filter, but I wondered about the carb. Tim

Ooooo! Bad gas not good. Hopefully the filter trapped all the bad stuff.

I'm thinking that this SeaFoam fuel treatment will in all likelyhood work well in the H-D but I don't know that for sure.

Yeah, the next day I passed the gas station in my truck and saw the men working on the gas pumps. The next day I went for a ride and me Sporty started missing really bad.[] Dumped the tank and a lot of trash came out,[sm=sigh.gif] so I replaced the fuel filter, cleaned the tank with fresh gas and replaced the fuel line. I've had no problems since, but I wondered about a fuel treatment though. Harley dosen't sell anything like that. Tim

Certainly good to hear that you haven't had any problems since but just a pain what you had to do to get things cleaned up. I'll take a look at my H-D Acc. catalogue and see if they have a carb/jets fuel addative cleaning product but I don't think so. Will let you know.

Tim:

Just checked the H-D Accessories catalogue I have and it looks like they have something they call Genuine Fuel Additive. It is supposed to permit the use of lower octane fuel, control the formation of combustion chamber deposits, lubricate upper cylinder, inhibit corrosion, clean fuel system and improve fuel storage stability.

Kinda sounds like the same thing that the SeaFoam product does??... (see post#9 above).

Tom: I don't know a thing about "Seafoam", but I do know about cleaning fuel injectors. I use Jeep vehicles in my business and most Jeep engines have been fuel injected since about 1991. The four wheel drive people swear by the use of common Acetone solvent that you would get at the hardware or paint store for adding to the fuel to keep the injectors and valves clean. I picked up the habit of doing it too. They recommend about 4 oz. added to each 16 gal. fillup. You just do the math for more or less gasoline. I saw the innerds of a Jeep I-6 HO engine that was taken apart at about 180,000 miles for new rings. It looked fabulous. The owner had been using acetone for about 100,000 of those miles. I have no recommendation as to the use in H-D engines. ...... BC

I use it in my Mariner outboard every fall and have good luck with it. I tried it in my snowmobiles and I think I may have added too much because I'm having trouble with plugs fouling. I put some in both mine and my wife's bike but I closely looked at the SeaFoam recommendations and added a little less than that. SeaFoam also makes a transmission additive and I would highly recommend that, brought one back from sure death.

Thanks Iron Legend, I am off tomorrow and will go and see if I can find it. My bike is still running good, I guess the road Gods are smiling down on me right now. Merry Christmas, Tim
