Default drive belt?

I have an 03 Sporster and was just wandering how often the drive belt needs to be replaced.

Normal riding and proper tension, about 100,000 miles. My 96 1200 was still good at 52 K. I've heard of getting the belt to tight would result in breaking.

Environmental (UV rays, salt air, etc.) and storage conditions can affect belt life.

You need to replace it every time it breaks. Before then is just a waste of money.

Mine broke 3 weeks ago at 10,500 miles. [:@] I had just had a new rear tire put on the bike (150 miles earlier) and suspect the indy overtightened the belt. That made for a 60 mile tow back from BF Egypt.
