Default 2007 HDSPORTSTER 1200 Custom clicking no start?

Even when I had a trickle charger hooked on bike would not start. I used a portable car charger to start it ride to my va appts and bike was okay. The weather in San Antonio Texas 🥵 is hot and my bike started to run different, idle was hesitant and bike shut off? Now battery is 12.8 volts but clicks tried to use the car charger but saw smoke by positive cable. The negative cable is taped fyi. I ride to therapy at VA hospital but been using my GF car. Any input will be appreciated 👍🏼

How old is the battery? If in doubt, take it to an auto parts store and have it load tested.

1. As above get your battery load tested.
2. Make sure all connections are tight and there is not corrosion between the cables and the battery.
3. Make sure all ground connections are tight.
4. You may have voltage, but not the required amperage to start if your battery is old.

Report back after you address all of the above.

Good Luck.

This and ". there is not corrosion between the cables and the battery" not just a visual check, corrosion can be invisible so clean them even if you don't see any.

Where the negative cable attaches to the motor in the transmission area should be removed cleaned and reinstalled, there are different types of metals at that connection which causes unseen corrosion.

The battery is old and not supplying voltage to the starter. Took battery to AZ and they load tested, thanks for the heads up 👍🏼👍🏼
