It’s adding a new top end, but the original bottom/lower end (crank, rods) remain. If you mean whether the bike feels like a new bike, the answer is it can. Night day difference between my 1275 with cams and head work versus my previous 1200 setup with mild cams. Going from an 883 will be a big difference. Going from a 1200 to a 1250/1275 with no other changes, not a big difference.
