Default 2003 Sportster 1200C Oval Air Filter - HELP!

Can't seem to find it anywhere...

I'm looking to replace the oval air filter on this bike (pictured) I purchased last year and am having trouble finding this part in any of the local shops.

To make matters worse, I am told that where I live (CA) restricts the sale of this item. I have been checking online and can't seem to find this part anywhere.

Does anyone know where I can order this part?

What does the existing filter look like? If it's a Screaming Eagle kit, it's probably a K&N fabric filter. It is designed to be cleaned and re-oiled, very easy to do. I have a Screaming Eagle air filter on my 1991, it's probably just like yours. Just wash it good with Dawn Soap and water, shake it out, let it dry in the sun, and re-oil it. NoToil makes a fabric oil that is biodegradable, but make sure you get oil for Fabric Filters, not Foam Filters. Foam filters use much thicker oil.

Take a look for any numbers on the filter.

K&N may still make a replacement filter as well. The part number I have is 29025-88B, which seems to be the Harley Davidson part number for the SE filter element.

Here's one on Ebay, but it says 84-99, so yours may be different:

NIce bike! It looks like you live just north of me.

Yes, It appears we are neighbors! Great suggestion - I was able to find the part number "c102a8" and find it online, but I may try washing it first. I pulled it off today, and the thing was dripping and soaked (I had just ridden yesterday)! Wondering if the torn gaskets would be causing any performance issue? I have already siphoned excess oil from the previous owner. Thanks!

First two pics show after it was pulled, 3rd pic was wiped clean and shows gasket tears, and 4th shows PN.

That filter looks just like mine so what I posted from Ebay should work. Those tears in the rubber backing piece are of no consequence and not affecting anything. Try running your oil level lower on the dipstick, I run my oil level at the lower mark. Always check oil when engine hot just after a ride, as oil will sometimes bleed down into the engine after the bike sits. I would not bother trying to buy another filter, yours is just fine.

You might try changing out the umbrella valves under the rocker cover, they may have gotten hard and allowing more oil vapors from the heads. Mine does spray a tiny bit of oil from the head breathers, even after I rebuilt mine into a 1250 a year and a half ago. Just the nature of the beast. I have a brand new rocker box gasket set by Cometic if you're interested, I can sell it cheap. The original rocker box gaskets are paper, the Cometic are coated steel, so a good upgrade to prevent leaks.
