Default 1987 xl883 Carb question

Trying to get a xl883 running again. have issues with carb and wanting to upgrade, does anyone know or know a place that can tell me if i can upgrade to a CV carb or other? trying to find manuals and havent had any luck. thanks in advance.

You can fit a CV carb on there with a manifold adapter:

You might find a used manifold and flanges for a '89-'03. I'm pretty sure it will retrofit as the head mounts should be the same '86-'03. You might even find one for less than buying the adapter. Good luck. You should look for a CV40 Harley carb, not just any CV carb, although some are probably very similar.

As JH stated, a common CV40 carb should work fine. They are a pretty good carb and easy to work on.
