The stock 883 actually puts out around 45 hp or so. I've seen hp graphs of the basic 1275 conversion (cylinders and pistons only) well into the 70s.

I am thinking for the cost of the swap these days its worth the 20-25 HP. I have a 2005 I think those kits are real affordable. I bought a Dyna so I never did do the top end in my 883.

It looks like a pretty big bang for the buck to me. And, if you could round up a good set of 1200 heads to go with the swap (with 10:1 pistons) you'd have the option of going to bigger cams later, like maybe Hammer's 570s.

One other thing: going with a 1275 gives a nice bump in torque through the low end and midrange as well, compared to a 1200 conversion.

I'm about to find out. I have a Hammer 1275 kit waiting to go on my wife's Iron 883, with 10.5 pistons. I also have a set of 1200XL heads that Hammer went through and treated to a competition valve job (the area under the valves look really nice and are blended very nicely into the ports), and a set of their Impact 560 cams. Hoping for around 105 hp, or a bit more...

Now, I just need some warmer weather so I can stand to work in my as yet unheated shop. Temps are in the 20s right now....

Well definitely let us know how it goes. I am in Pa and yes teens here it is difficult to do work over winter for sure. Thats why people bring the bike into the house LOL! Sportsters fit through doorways rather well LOL!

I usually am busy just not in the garage, lord knows I've spent enough years of my life wrenching. I have adopted a "if it isn't broken don't fix it" mentality.
