Nightster - $11,413 OTD, Deal or No Deal?
So I just got off the phone with the closest dealer to me, about 2 hours from where I'm at. He is getting 3 Nightsters in Aug 27 and quoted me the above price OTD, no negotiation, take it or leave it.
Just curious for all you others out there if this is a decent deal and what you paid.
CA Sales Tax in LA County is 8.25%
MSRP = $9695
TAX = $800
That means they want $918 for Registration and Dealer Fees.
Anybody else had anybetter luck on a 2008.
Thanks

If the tax is calculated on the total amount then you have to figure it backwards ie:
11413 less 8.25% tax is 869.80 in tax for a before tax price of 10543.19 minus the MSRP of 9695 works out to 848.19 for freight, prep, dealer fees and registration.
The web site shows a charge of $100 for California emissions and $270.00 for freight, this brings the dealer prep, dealer fees and registration down to $478.14.
I'd say thats about as good as your going to get on their first batch of 2008's.

Hotlap - Thanks, I wasn't thinking about having to add the tax at the end. I suppose if I was lucky I could talk them into some free gear or store certificates but the way the guy was talking they have no problem selling the Nightsters within a few days of hitting the showroom floor.

True, however your looking at the same math again. $12K for a Dyna, then add tax, title, reg, and dealer fees and you are back up to $14-14.5K and I promised my wife I wouldn't spend more than 12K so that's pretty much my limit. From the sounds of it however doesn't sound like anyone has really done much better on a new nightster.
I should really probably buy used but Harley has made so many upgrades since 2006, especially with the Sportster line and even the dyna and softtails as well.
I'm just torn between buying new (rubber engine mounts, fuel injection, etc..) plus I love the bobber style look of the Nighster vs used. Maybe I'll fall in love with a tricked out older bike though next time I go to the dealer. Haven't ruled it out.
