Default 2001 1200C oil change

I got this bike about a month ago and am going to do an oil change soon. The manual said draining the crankcase is not “necessary”.

Since I don’t know if the previous owner used regular or a synthetic should I drain the crankcase anyway?

My concern is the possible reaction the synthetic might have with any residual regular oil. Will burnt/used oil cause the synthetic to break down in any way?

I have not read anywhere on here about someone using a motor flush like the “Gunk” brand. I know a well maintain motor should never need flushing. Is a flush not recommended?

They won't react with each other. Just do oil change as normal. If you really want, you can read into oil scavenging, where you drain oil with the engine running, while in turn pooring new oil in. But it's absolutely not necessary, so I suggest just use synth oil, normal oil change is about 3 quarts. I'd stay away from any flushing agents as it's almost gauranteed you'll end up with some still in the engine when your done. And don't forget to change your primary oil while your at it, primary takes 1 quart. Not sure what type of oil you plan on using, but I use mobil 1 20w50 synth in both engine and primary and would recomend it to anyone.

If they reacted badly together then the oil makers wouldn't be saling Sythetic-blend oils.

Yet they do.

Sythetic blends. Yes I know I am spelling it wrong.

My point being that dino oil and sythetics can mix well together.

No I am not a troll.

Selling. And I put on over 1000 miles on my new sporty in the last month.

I just started a new job and broke a rib last week.

So I have some time on my hands.

Oh, and I am VERY opinionated.

Lighten up ryback! Kolni is no troll. In fact he has contributed nicely in his short stay here! I am so sick of people constantly calling people trolls because of different opinions!

It doesn't bother me. I understand how long term members are werey of newbies. ANd they get defensive because they care about this forum.

Perfectly understandable and I am happy to take the time to explain myself.

And I was at one forum with 42,864 post with in 5 years, so I AM kind of a psot ***** and I know it.

But all I do in life is ride, work on my bike, work (sometimes), and spend time with the family.

I literally spend 16+ hours a day in my garage most days.
