RE: New top speed for me
I know it's an earlier generation bike, but I used to have a 97 883. It seemed to run out of steam quite immediately at around 85 or so. Up to 85, it felt like it had quite a bit more to give and then.....nothing more. It didn't bother me, because on that solid mount bike the bars were vibrating so hard at that speed that my hands felt like they were going to come off!
There's a point at which the powerband starts to fall and with aerodynamic drag going up exponentially, the top speed limitseems to hit pretty hard.

Let's just get this out of the way... I've had the sportster for three months now... it still scares the crap out of me to go much over 60! I avoid the freeway like the plague!
Maybe someday, but for now, cruising down that rural road at about 50 mph feels just right to me....

You all crack me up! I consistantly ride my Geezer Glide at 90 + and 100 mph is cruising speed for me on my Hayabusa. Y'all act like 80 is a big deal. Not trying to be a jerk here....just couldn't keep my mouth shut.

RE: New top speed for me
I've had mine up to 85, and as a lot of you said, there seems to be a lot left. What a motor! Rock solid and never misses a beat. I am so impressed with the motor but the handling lets her down a bit. At 85 a slight wobble begins soI back off. If I had the nerve I would try to ride through it but I haven't.
