Maybe it's just me, but my thoughts are who cares how fast their bike will go as long as it will cruise for hours on end at top posted speed limits, and still havereserve power to spare.
I am with you on this one OFG..... after it's been tried once or twice just to see how fast it will go.

In general I agree with ya that OFG, but sometimes if you only do the posted speed limit, you'll be smashed! I just returned from a short hop about an hour east of Nashville. When I got on I-40, if you weren't doing at least 80, you'd better get off the road. So, I just cruised slightly faster than the flow of traffic (85 - 90) and all was good.

As to the other posts, I just have the Stage 1 with a fairly decent tuned carb, I had the bike up to 112 on Nashville Super Speedway, and there was still some bike left. I doubt there was much bike left, but I ran outta ***** at that point.

There shouldn't be much left at all SportyPig with the 883 gearing.
When mine was still an 883 I had it up to 100 once and that was pretty damn good I think with hauling my large *** around. Since it was converted to a 1250 I don't think I've had it up to 100 and don't plan on it since Virginia passed new speeding laws earlier this year.
Under the law, which took effect July 1, the new civil penalty for driving 20 miles an hour or more over the speed limit, a violation defined by the state as reckless driving, will be $1,050. First-time drunken drivers will face a civil penalty of $2,250. In both cases, judges can also continue to impose fines of up to $2,500, plus court costs.
I have noticed the speeds people have been driving on the highway around here has dropped.

I don't care much for top speed but damn does this 1250 get up toany speed you want a hell of a lot quicker now. [8D]

PIB,

As I said that was on a race track. No worries about a speeding ticket. I have had the bike up to 100 or so on the interstate, but that was with a Tennessee Highway Patrol escort. Again, no worries about speeding tickets.

Today, I was running around 90. Hell that was just a survival move. So was everyone else.

But I agree, with the 883 gearing, there couldn't be much left, and if I wanted to go FAST..... I'd buy a V-Rod.

We were on the highway and my buddy on his Yamaha VStar passed me at 90MPH, it didn't take much for me to go around him at 105MPH. It's hoot once in awhile, But I don't do it to often.

I agree sometimes you got to go as little faster than the posted limit for survival but I am still getting used to it and the first time on the interstate at 50 I was scarred but now going 79 when I am at 60 it feels good.....now when I get to 100 80 will feel good and by good I mean comfortable and 80 is a usual crusin speed on the interstates

Why 79...? well thats what the speedo said...got no reason to lie, if I hadn't had to get off at the next exit it may have been 85

I love posts that say, "I hit xx or xxx and it had more to go." Why not just find out what "more to go" is? You've already broken the law and placed yourself in greater risk of physical harm. Just go ahead and crank it and find out the max. Most of the time, "more to go" ain't really all that much.

Ride safe. Speed is fun, but it also can kill.
