Question Amp draw on 1995 sportster 1200

Is there anybody who can tell me what the amp draw on a 1995 Sportster should be from the battery with the ignition on? I measure about 5.5A on mine and when I unplug the headlamp I get about 0.5A. It seems a lot since there isn't much drawing power. Am I making a mistake thinking this?

What other lamps are still on with the ignition on?

What you have just explained suggests you have something like a 60 Watt bulb in the headlamp.

0.5A is about right considering tail lamp, front running lamps, ignition, any dash lamps, and coil factored in.

Is there some problem you are having with the electrical system on the bike?

That is correct (60W). There are no other lamps on or anything I can see (or think of), which is why I asked the question

yep, I switched to LED's not too long ago. Bought the flasher relay boxes on Amazon. Worked like a dream.... at first. Then my all four (Hazards) went. I didnt really care since I never use them, everything else worked great. Then my voltage regulator went. it sent 16V to the Battery. replaced that and then the speedo went. only go to 20 MPH (And no, its not the VSS, I changed it out). Long story short, I'm looking for a short or something. I did however just test the flasher module and it seems one of the Amazon relays went bad. I'll report back soon as I replaced it

If you put LEDs on a 1995 bike, I am sure the flasher relays have resistors in them to balance out the lessor load from the LEDs, they will show an AMP draw also.

Doesn't sound like much draw to me. Only 6 watts. Your headlight and starter will draw most the amperage.

The bike is no longer stock so asking a fellow 95 owner is probably not going to help.
