sorry it took so long to get back to you. if you leave the oil level at the "add" mark then you will have minimal/none splatter. if i filled mine up then it would have a blowby problem. left it at the add mark and she was good to go.

later,

wanna

I think this is B***S*** I know to many people that ride sportsters and have no oil leaks at all .My son has an 06 883 and it leaks from the air cleaner dealer says it is normal still dont believe it . My 05 doesnt leak a drop .Just got back from riding mine fro Sturgis Almost 3000 miles round trip and not a drop of oil and it was filled up all the time

If I'm lazy and I don't clean my air filter when I change my oil (bad of me I know)....then after awhile it'll collect in there and start making a mess....so I'll pull it out...soak it in degreaser, swish it around in a bucket and let it dry overnight.....happened to me on Friday, actually. It's all happy now.. =-)

Sentinel....1st of all nice bike....love that color! As others have indicated....a common issue on the Sporty.... Most do it...some worse than others...some lucky ones not so much! Oil vapor in the rocker boxes makes it's way through the breathers into the air cleaner, condenses, collects in the bottom of the air cleaner cover and blows back on theoil tank......and in our case the right saddle bag....Long, highrpm runs create more oil vapor to condense and blow back. Keeping the oil tank at 1/3rd or lower helps... Also it's worse if you have a stage 1 or other free flow air cleaner.

I went the Breather Kit route when I got tired of cleaning up the mess. Ran the hose to the front lower frame cross member where I mounted a chrome breather (more chrome!).Eventually the breather will get saturated with oil and willleave a drip or two when parked...I'll spray a little filter cleaner on it when I'm washing the bike...problem solved.

Also this condition could be caused by over oiling a K&N Style filter...It doesn't take too much extra filter oil to have the same effect as oil blow by...

4d, thx for the compliment. i am tryin to learn as much as i can about this and the bike itself, thx to all here , i have gotten great info and hope to help others too. it goes into the shop on the 21st and i was told the work would be done on the 22nd.....hope that holds true but i'll have to wait and see, ya know stealerships... but i got 1 question on this. was there ever a recall for this fix? it would seem to make sense. i'll definetly let everyone know how it goes,

The only way I completely fixed the oil blowby problem on my bike was to install the screamin eagle air cleaner. It forces the oil into the intake manifold instead of just hoping it will go in there. Plus also running with the oil level only about 1/3 above the add mark.

ok update,
so today i take the bike to get some clear glasses at the dealership, it's about 2.5 miles from my house. i drove nice and casual and when i got there i looked at the leak spot again.... it's coming from my exhaust. where my rear pipe connects to the jughead. now i'm baffled (excuse the pun) now i know for sure it's not blowby from the air filter and i watched it come out as i got home and looked yet again. man this is suckin big time.
