Default 1969 xlch

Hi, I’m working on a 69 XLCH with a magneto and it has a cycle elect. Voltage regulator that I believe does not work. I had the generator tested and it works, but when I connected the voltage regulator the head and tail lights it does not work.
if I connect the lights to a 12 v battery all the lights work great.
is there a particular generator that is used for a XLCH with a mag ? And a particular CYCLE Elect regulator I should use?
thanks
john

If ya follow the Factory Service Manual, the regulator/gen must be "flashed" to polarize it. This is correct . . . for regulators that have points. If you "flash" an electronic regulator . . . Congratulations, you have just fried your new regulator.
