True, but the front end work to even out the stance could be pretty expensive.

There’s a big difference between not bottoming out and riding smoothly. In my experience, really short shocks with heavy duty springs hardly move at all when you hit a big bump.

The 13.5" Heavy Duty are doing just fine on my XL1200C, stance is just great, so far seems very stable, straight and turning. Intentionally went over some bumps, seemed a good deal better than the stock, a large dip that was quite harsh previously, now much less violent (about the same as my FXLR) as well as I made sure to hit the roughest part of some RR Tracks, once again, as good or better than my FXLR. Not sure how much different a 2014 Iron would be, but maybe the OP will keep us updated.

You will be fine with the 13.5s. I have 13s on my street glide and 14s on the sportster. You should set the preload so that you have at least one inch of sag when you sit on the bike. Maybe up to 1.25 inches. You will love the ride and increased clearance.

Short stroke suspension is just the stupidest thing. Zero advantages, But “Looks Cool”. Great for people who rarely ride their bikes.

Yeah longer 13.5 is great for the rear. Now do the same for the front with longer damper rods and your all set.
