You will replace the switch inside the tank with a sender unit so that should take care of that. There is also a plug you put in place of the resistor pack.

I have had the pump out of my partner's Sportster three times to get the tank painted and corrected.
It is not hard but something of a heads-up the wiring is fixed in a special plug that I cannot figure how to get out. It maybe just not possible so be careful to not damage the wires.
