If I'm not mistaken, the Nightster uses narrow-glide width trees. I believe
you'll need to switch to mid-glide width trees (at a minimum) to get space
for the wider wheel/tire combo. I believe the 1200 Custom uses mid-glide trees,
so you might be able to source those fairly cheap, or you can go to Vulcan Engineering
for a set of their trees.

good luck,

T.

Are you sure you should be doing this conversion if you dont know what the triple trees are ?

Here's an example of the upper from ebay

good luck,

Thats what we call 'em here in the States... With that background, you should be able
to research exactly what you need then. If you haven't found it, Ronnie's HD microfiche
is a good source.

good luck,

If you start out just looking at the trees the 48 uses, it's a mid-glide variant. The narrow glide is just not
wide enough to allow the fat wheel/tire combo + fender.... I would NOT recommend using
the upper tree from the 48 however since it's riser is integrated into the tree & non-standard
with everything else "Harley". Again, might research the upper/lower trees from the
1200 Custom. You could keep your forks and probably just need the wheel, spacers,
axle & fender from the 1200 Custom (in addition to the upper/lower triple trees)

good luck,

T.

The "easiest" thing you can do if your Nightster uses a 19" front wheel & 100/90-19 tire is to
bump the tire size to a 110. I have done this and it's the largest tire you can go without
contact with the fender. Here's a pic with my front tire;

good luck,

T.
