Warrior HD said the key words: "Riding position".. Drag bars have always been my favorites, but at 52 years of age, the mini apes position my back much more comfortably than drags do. Drags look the coolest to me, but riding comfort has to have priority over "cool".. Indian Larry put mini apes on all his rides, probably for comfort as he aged...

my sporty has the 10in buckhorn style on it and i just bought the 10in apes for my bike as i love the highth of my buckys they just feel like my hands are a bit to close together and the wrong wrist angle for the long rides say over 300mi in a day. Allthough like someone mentioned earlier they liked the drag bar look as far as cool so do I so i am also looking into possibly getting a drag bar and trying some 10 or 12in risers of some sort even if i have to make them myself

so what constituts Ape bars? - compared to other barsI have seen on bikes, on my 1200c - they raise up slightly and the grips point down and out - I have seen other bars that are darn near staight, or just come out from the center at an angle and the grips angle is in alignment with the bar itself.

molsenice,
The '06 XL1200C is advertised as coming with "low-rise handlebars" (the rise is mostly from the risers, not the bars). I'm really not sure what size rise constitutes "Ape bars". The smallest bars I have seen that were called "mini-apes" had a 6" rise in them, but actually, most mini-apes are advertised with an 8" rise. I have seen ape hangers with a 10", 12", 14" and 16" rise. Now 16 inchers are what I call ape hangers!
