Carb Probs on my 99 Sportster too much carb?

I'm having a problem with my 1999 Sportster 883 converted to a 1200. It runs fine for a bit then starts bogging out, maybe a backfire or 2 then just stops running and fouls my plugs. I have an S&S carb and the Harley dealership told me that it's too much carb for my bike and they can't adjust it down enough to do any good so I need to put a new carb on. I bought the bike the way it is. Oddly enough after going through the paper work on the bike I found that the same shop either rebuilt the same carb, installed the carb, or gave an estimate on the carb back in 03. Does any of this make sense?

Too much carb? I find that hard to believe. Get a second opinion and don't go back to that Stealer. I have always found it best to find and indy that knows his stuff. Ask around to other Harley owners, you are bound to find someone who knows someone.. 6 degrees of separation and all that..

The stock CV carb is good for 90 HP and it's a far better carb for all purpose riding. S&S is one of those "Urban Myth" parts. Kinda like drag pipes.
That being said, the S&S carb can certainly be tuned for your bike. They're pretty simple. Try going a bit richer on the pilot jet and leaner on the idle mixture.
