Default 30th Anniversary Present

I've had my bike for 30 years come this November 24. Since I had to pull the rear rocker box yesterday to fix a leak, I just kept going and am now down to the piston and cylinder. Ordered a black 1250 kit, gaskets, plugs, and ignition system from Hammer. Looking forward to giving her a displacement "boob job" for a 30th anniversary gift. Since I have it all apart now, might as well bump up the horsepower. I'm sure after 30 years with 883 performance, this should be a nice change.

Budget wise, it's just not worth the extra $150 to me (for 25cc), and the 1250 is a time tested product from Hammer. I'm sure the 1250 will give me enough power for my limited needs. I putt around like an old fart as it is, but more highway acceleration would be nice. The 883 is a dog, let's be real.

This project gives me a challenge, and when I realized I could do the back cylinder/head assembly, and then do the front fairly easy now, it just seemed a no brainer to do something. Adversity often presents opportunity. I realized I was going to have to do the front rocker box gaskets as well, as the rear one's crumbled like an Egyptian mummy. Might as well do it.

Plus, I get to paint the rusty brackets and change some rusted bolts. 30 years on the beach will wreak havoc. Gives me a chance to do a 30 year "soft" restoration.

Have you considered using an anti-corrosion product like ACF-50 ?

Awesome.
I for one would be interested in a photo of your 30 years of use piston tops and combustion chamber.

I could also agree on the "proven 1250 kit.
Again awesome.

Wishing you a smooth and easy update.
