Default Belt Drive Sportster

01 1200 with a belt. Gonna clean her up during the cold months after some hard covid riding. Is there any way to service the belt? Its really the only thing on the bike i haven't messed with.
Thanks.

Check the belt tension according to the Factory Service Manual. Other than that, replace it if it needs it.

Inspect the teeth for any missing rubber and the rest of the belt for any cuts, that's about it. Similarly inspect the pulleys for any wear and damage.

Biggest thing to not forget is to check tension. I also agree with checking for broken teeth. Ive had a belt before that was missing a tooth and had no idea until I went to check the belt itself. Glad you took advantage of covid riding!

Right about that. Have had my trip meter up recently so I’m not sure how much I’ve put on her this summer. Debating just buying a new one and taking a week to swap

IF you are doing the work yourself it doesn't take a week to swap a belt. Maybe an hour, and half of that is looking for the right tools.

Interesting.Yea, I’ve always done everything myself, EXCEPT anything where I take apart the rear axle. Give myself extra time Incase I brake something

You don't have to take apart the rear axle. Just loosen it so you can slide it forward. Get the right alignment tool for putting it back. Have to remove or loosen the exhaust (if stock) some brackets, the front sprocket cover, maybe the foot peg if you have mids can't remember that for sure..

Sporty's are much easier than the big twins.
