Not looking to argue about the fall away method but, I don't understand how it can be accurate.

Take my bike for instance, I have a large diameter stiff clutch cable attached to the handlebars on the left side, and two thinner less stiff throttle cables on the right side. Obviously both are affecting 'fall away' in some degree, the clutch cable more than the throttle cables since it is so much stiffer. Short of removing both from the handlebars, how can the 'fall away' measurement be accurate? The fall away to the left has to be meeting more resistance to movement. What am I missing...

All that said, when I rebuilt the front end on my son's Iron I tightened the steering head bearings while off the ground to the initial torque spec (don't recall off hand), backed the nut off and tightened it back to 7ftlbs as called out in the manual. I rode the bike for around 100 miles and it felt fine to me, and exhibited no quirky handling issues no matter what I did or how fast I was going. My son after his first ride said the bike somehow felt 'looser' than he remembered, so I tightened it to 10 ftlbs. After that he said the bike then felt the same as before, and after an additional 1000 miles everything seems fine. No sign of the bearings being over tightened, no binding, seemingly normal fall away, and no movement front to back in the steering.
