RE: Broke Down in BF Egypt
I'd be interested in studying the broken belt. Was it a clean break? Or were there loose lengthy threads which seperated and pulled in two? If it looks clean, look closer, and see if it could have been partially cut. If so, I would tanke it back to the tire repair guy and show it to him and see if he wouldn't help pay the repair bill, since he must have partially cut it during the tire installation.
Unless, you drove over something that flew up and cut the belt. All it would need is a cut to start and it would cause failure.
I have had mud build up in the sprocket and resulted in belt slippage. Corrected this with a simple power washer washing out the mud. I did not slip the belt to the burn stage and ruin it. Could you have run it loose enough to burn the belt's sidewalls? You need to examine that belt further. It will tell you what happened. I'm bettin it was cut.

Nice quote rebelnc, And I agree with u. He would have been a great harley rider, because his creed was strength and honor, which most harley riders adhere to as well. Great comparison. BTW charley, your experience will give a lot of us new people food for thought and remind us of things that we might not consider important, that might leave us stranded somewhere. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the story about what happened. Good to hear you kept the bike under control. Sounds like everthing worked out, just somewhat of an adventure for you. Does sound like the belt was to tight. I worry after taking my bike or car to the dealer that they forgot, or didn't get something back the way it should be.I've had this happen to me a couple times with my vehicles.Ido most of myown work when I can.

I guess a broken belt was better than going into the bend too fast and the potential injury & damage that could have resulted.
Glad to hear another rider eventually stopped to help out.
Hope the rest of your vacation goes well and without any further misshaps. Have a great one mate.

This is another one of the 'posts brought back from the dead', and the initial post/incident took place way back in July, so I assume he made it back home without any further trouble.
