883 low or Nightster

RE: 883 low or Nightster
I had an orange 2007 883R that I slapped a tach on, and it was one sweet ride. Obviously I prefer my 1200R below, but the 883R was a sweet ride. If you're into sport bikes at all (which you are...650R), I highly suggest you consider either of the R Sportsters. They come with dual front disc brakes, mid-mounted pegs, and a higher seating height for a more aggressive ride.
Since you already have a sport bike I would just buy an 883R and be done with it. You may be disappointed with the power of the 883, or the lack thereof.

I love all sporty's, but you will be wanting the power and ponies of the 1200 in about 3 weeks of good riding. I am shorter as well, and I went with the custom which is just perfect. My Girlfriend who is even 5'4" has no problem reaching all the controls and what not. I am going for the old school bobber look. Here is where she is now, with much more to come.

OK, I have to revamp my idea a bit. I checked with the War/Planning/Treasury department i.e. my wife on what I can do. I have made the decision to buy a Harley, but I got like no money to play with. The only thing I have is my 650r. It’s paid off and if I beg and plead, I might be able to get a little money for the switch. This leaves me only a few ways to go. Sell my bike and buy a used 883. Trade in my bike and buy a new or used 883, either way I got very little spending money.
I don’t want to dump all the money on the purchase of the bike because I would like to get some pips or a nice set of custom wheels or something. My dream here is to get an 883 and trick out like this.
If I get an 883 on the cheap and I can do the work my garage, buy some parts and be on my way to a cool looking HD. After looking at the bikes in the dealers, hearing them run, and sitting on them. I have to have a Harley now. I love my 650r but these Sporsters are just too cool. I assume the best way is the sell my 650R and buy a used 883. That’s allot of hassle but should save the most money. Will dealer’s work with trades and used bikes or do they just take trades for the new ones?
Oh by the way, I’m small dude so an 883 is a great size for me. I had a bigger bike before the 650r and I have to trade down due to weight. I really don’t need a 1200 even though they are cool as hell.

RE: 883 low or Nightster
You can do a search of these forums and find a number of postings by people that have an 883 and wished they had bought a 1200. I don't recall ever seeing a posting by someone who had a 1200 and wished they had bought an 883. Keep that in mind. Also, what ever extra it might cost to buy the 1200 over an 883 you will surely get back if and when you sell it. You said you like chrome. Look at the difference between the engines of a 1200 vs. 883.

I don't know if you noticed, but the bike in this picture is not running a sportster frame, or engine. It has a peanut tank on it, but there is more money in modification on this bike than the extra 2 grand that you dont want to spend on the nightster.

I am trying to decide on eilther a Roadster or Custom. You mentioned that you have a Roadster. Any thoughts on which is best for someone who only rode a honda rebel 250 and in the market to go with a harley after learning to ride. I am 62 years old so speed is not my main concern. Also, I am 6'1" and think the custom may be better as for as position on the bike.
