Default Big guy sportster shocks

I've got an 04 sporty and wanted some heavier rear shocks. Something with heavier springs and valving for someone 260 pounds. I do not need the bike to be lower. Any suggestions?

Thanks

I have a 2009XL1200C that I replaced the shocks with a pair of 13" Road King ones. Still testing them out but 7psi is just a bit low I think. Ride solo and weigh 215 without all the gear. Probably close to 235 when all geared up. Hope this helps. Take care and stay safe. Burt

Do they bolt right up? Change the rear height any?

Thanks

I'm around your weight, with a 97 sporty. Running Progressive 944 shocks. I find them quite comfy and good handling with the standard springs and 2.5 turns of preload. Their available in several lengths. Fun, fun.

I was replacing a set of 12" Progressive 412's with heavy duty springs. The spacers that came with the 412's worked out perfectly. Some folks have said they needed to put 2 or 3 washers on each end in-order to clear the belt guard. I didn't have to because already had spacers. Do not notice any change in height but have not measured it. Just need to put a bit more air in and think they will be what I was trying to get with the HD 412's. FWIW, when I bought the bike it had 11" Progressive with standard duty springs, that did not work at all, too soft no matter what cam was set for. Hope you find what you are looking for, the RK shocks are pretty cheap on eBay. Take care and stay safe. Burt

They look great, but I only have $1200 in the bike so they're a bit pricey in a relative sense. I'll keep an eye out for a used set. Thank you.

Bagger air shocks are hard to beat, for the money. You should be able to get a pair off ebay for under $100. They come in 12 or 13". Not sure what model you have or what length shock, but at your size I would consider going 13" for extra travel, even with the air in them. If you have 12" on your bike, grt 13" shocks, and DK 1" lowering block. I did exactly that on my Ultra Classic pictured in my signature. For my sportster, I went from 12 to 13" and also added longer dampers to the forks to level the bike and got more ground clearance, and more lean angle. Makes the sporty handle more.....sporty.

My sporty with air shocks.

Oh yea, with the air shocks, get a HD hand pump. Its small, compact and works perfectly for these shocks. For you I would start with about 20 psi and ride it. Adjust up or down to suit your personal taste.

I meant 444's , but yeah, I run into the same issue. Paid the same for mine. But if you're going to actually ride it; suspension money is money well spent.

I agree. I'm cheap so if I can find something around $100-$300 that works, I'll try that first. Thank you.
