well that all depends on what ur doing standard 1250 covnversion with nose cone ignition? u will need to have some mechanical aptitude and really need a factory service manual
on hammers web site they have some instructions and youtube yes if unsure you should watch and read first. just like the manual they leave some stuff out in my experiance expecting you to have a certian level of skill. but if your totally unsure they have great customer service they will basically walk u threw it if needed. i will post a pick of what needs to come off not showing everything in the way, seat, tank, exhaust ect to get to this point plus a stupid amount of seals/gaskets (get the complete comatic gasket set they offer. plus will need some tools. ignition timing if needed a little extra if u have carb as i do time? well thats open.

Wanting to juice her up a little."Big bore kits w/ cam swap? Carb upgrade? What's a guy do ? Its a daily rider weather permitting and want to still be a all day ride bike but without the worries of over heating or losing the ability to all day ride. Not wanting a just in town cruiser. 02 xl1200c
Hey, for a little more juice. All you need is a 1200cc engine and Stage one or maybe a Stage two. That's it! Simple and affordable.
I have a stage 1 with short shots an Arleness big air sucker and a simple Fuel Moto Micro tuner and for 5 yrs its been great. I did have it tuned last year.

I kind of agree with post 17.
You'll still need an intake & exhaust, plus carburator tuning if you go to a 1250/ 75 kit.
That $1000 may be fairly quickly with an intake and exhaust alone, plus the rejet tuning, whcih hipefully you can do yourself.
That's what I would do.
I could be tempted to replace the carburator, for the reason of easier tunability and technology advances.
Adding the carb would certainly "eat up" your $1000.
FWIW Good luck with your decision.

i must say i assume everyone has already done intake/exhaust as part of the power addiction. i already had exhaust and KN filter in a slightly opened stock air cleaner
plus i had everything needed tools ect even brand new cooler spark plugs. i had jets, oil and shop supplies not figured into the 850. so figure a grand $ to be safe if you dont already have that stuff. time? i wouldnt worry about that u will want to take ur time and make sure everything is right
