Default V&H Short Shots- no tune, stock filter

Working on the Stage 1 upgrade on my 2019 883. I’m installing the V&H Short Shots first and will leave it without a tune and air filter for a few months. Then I plan to gradually add in the tune and air cleaner after saving up some $$$. Is there any issues from just running the full exhaust system without the tune? Besides the decel pops of course 😅

based on what I read nothing much except a loss of low end torque. Did the same and the bike felt flat till I put in the fp3. Still to do an air filter though.

I just bought a bike that had short shots with the stock tune and air cleaner. My understanding is that you can run the stock tune with aftermarket exhaust but naturally it’s not ideal. The decel pops will get old quickly.

Generally speaking you can run slip on exhausts without tuning without a big change in performance. Once you are changing a full exhaust system, even if you haven't changed the intake, tuning becomes highly desirable. Change the intake along with any exhaust changes and rideability can really suffer if you don't tune.

You would be better off getting the tuner first and applying a stock bike tune to richen the mixture some. Then save your money for the pipes and air cleaner.

^^^ This.

I did the typical new owner thing and went for pipes, which I do not regret but now I want to add a high-flow intake (which is generally cheaper than a tuner) so now I’ve got to add both Lol. I wish I’d done my homework and got the tuner first. Oh well, Harley tax as they say.

Enjoy

+2 Get that Purchase done first. Or, just wait until you can get all 3 at once.

I'm in a very similar bind at the minute, I need to get a tuner to sort out my air fuel ratio, my query is this. Fuel Pak FP3 is where a lot of online searches end up, however, I've seen a cheaper - easier option called XiED Fuel Management. Has anyone had anything to do with these? any good?

I took a look at the installation instructions. It looks like the X14iED just plugs inline with the oxygen sensors to modify the signal sent back to the ECM. There doesn't appear to be any customization by which pipes, intake, or other modifications you have done to the bike. There is no autotune feature like the FP3 or other tuners, probably because you aren't actually tuning the bike, just tricking it into thinking the oxygen sensor likes what it's seeing.

Do it once, do it right, and have no regrets. And doing it right is not the FP3. For about the same money, a forum sponsor offers the Powervision, a far superior tuner in every respect.
