Coming up on 25,000 miles and noticing a rougher ride. Ohlins shocks so I think I’m good there. Any advise or suggestions welcome.

The 2017 FSM has the service interval to rebuild the front forks at 50,000 miles with a change of oil.

How are you noticing a rougher ride? Is there any apparent damage to them or corrosion? Do you go off-road or bang the bike up and down kerbs?

Cool

A rougher ride could be as simple as a missing balance weight causing a wheel to vibrate, or even well worn tyres. Take a good look around and see if you can get a better idea of what the source may be. It's difficult to see why your forks should be the cause!

Of course Ohlins also make suitable fork cartridges, so it is certainly worth trying them....

Thanks guys. No corrosion, curbs or dirt riding here. New tires this season, I will check wheel weights... 50,000 mile service interval surprises me. Maybe I need to play with my shocks a bit and I will look into Ohlins forks to compliment the shocks. No idea where to get the cartridges..

Have you checked your tire pressures?

Can you describe rougher ride? With new tyres have the beads seated properly and have you been taking it easy for 100 miles to get them to bed and scrub in?

Tire pressures are good. 2300 miles on new tires. Got to thinking- switched from Pirellis to Michelin Commander IIs for longer mileage. Probably just the harder compound rubber I’m feeling...

They would have to be made of rock! I also use longer mileage tyres, Avon Storms, but they are just fine. There must be something else going on I suspect.

I’m lucky to have a good Indy for the last 25 years, he told me at 25,000 the fork oil is to be replaced. We discussed a set up from Racetech (springs and emulators). Since I am not a real aggressive rider and just wanted a smoother, less harsh ride. He said it came with 15 weight oil, he put 10 weight in and under filled by 10ml. I am quite satisfied with the ride now with that and Ohlins on back.
