I'm riding a 2013 1200XL. When I turn my key to "ignition" nothing happens. I turn it to "accessories" and everything lights up as usual. Obviously I can not start my bike. It was working perfectly all morning and now it's not. Battery is fully charged, Any ideas?

"nothing happens" by which do you mean the lights go out?

Yes, lights on in "accessories" position and then lights off in "ignition" position and start button doesn't even make a sound.

Looking at the wiring diagram - https://serviceinfo.harley-davidson....t/view?id=5540

the ignition switch when in the IGN position should connect accessories. It would appear that the switch might have failed.

You should check that all the fuses are good and no pins are corroded first.

If you have a multimeter disconnect main fuse and check continuity of the switch by going from main fuse to Lights, ACCY or ignition fuses.

Thank you, I will try that. I was going to check the fuses later today. This happened very suddenly with no intermittent problems.

All the fuses look like new. The same with the battery cables. I only have about 4500 miles on this bike. My son has my multi-meter so I couldn't follow your other suggestion. I was hoping it might be something obvious so I wouldn't need to bring it to Harley service where it will sit during these nice weeks of summer and also have to tow it in. I appreciate your help though.

Just looking at the wiring diagram of the ignition switch you can see where it goes from ACC to IGN + ACC. You say you loose everything when you put switch to IGN position looks like the switch has gone if all the fuses are good.

Obviously you need a meter to confirm that.

For what you need a $10 special will do the job. Accuracy is not important it just needs continuity or ohms range.

Sounds more like a wiring problem than anything else. Does your bike have non-stock handlebars, or have you disturbed the handlebar switches recently? Are there any mods to your bike at all?
