2003 Sportster with an exhaust O2 sensor? What is this??
Hi all. I have an 03 Sportster 883 hugger. I would like to change the exhaust. The exhaust i got has no O2 bungs. Currently, on one of my exhuasts theres an O2 sensor. I'd like to eliminate it....less is more. So i spent hours online looking for an elimination module and apparently 2003 didn't have O2 sensors?? What do i have then?? If the original owner put on some kind of mod...how do i get rid of it? Or is it just easier to weld on a bung to my new exhaust? Also i must note....the O2 sensor thats on my bike DOESNT HAVE A DISCONNECT PLUG....it looks to be hardwired to to the rest of the wiring. What do i have here??

Upon further investigation, there are wires coming from the sensor.....and one of the wires is hooked onto the blue wire which the blue wire goes to the left turn signal. Was any of this hooked onto something on the bike?? Did i disconnect something?
There looks to be a black ground and an end hookup above my thumb
The red wire from the bundle is spliced onto the blue wire

I must also add: the red wire that is spliced onto the blue wire is the only thing hooked up. The blue wire is putting out 10.2 volts. The red wire goes nowhere. Unless i unhooked something...i dont see anything where it goes. I also dont understand why someone would go through the trouble of installing just one exhaust to accomodate this odd wiring. Any help is much appreciated.

This is what your exhaust looked like when the bike was new.

So your bike didn't come with O2 sensors and unless it has been converted to fuel injection it could well be the previous owner had some way to see the out put while he was messing with re-jetting the carb.

I don't have anything left on the bike after having it tuned, the O2 ports were used by the dyno operators, then blanked off again once they had finished. I'm inclined to agree that those parts you've removed are the remnants of an instrument used by a previous owner, but I have no idea what else that might have involved. Does your bike run OK with it removed?
