Some guys over here have had the cable from the stator to the regulator get cut where it is too tight to the crankcase. You might want to look for evidence of that.

If good then check output from regulator. Should be 14.4 volts direct on 77A. Might be higher with the regulator not connected. If good then a wire is broken to the battery.
