RE: handlebar Q
I just bought a an 05 1200R and it had sort of a mini-ape bar which I guess is normally on a Road Glide. I changed out the bars to something even a bit shorter than stock. I was thinking drag bars, but I think maybe they would be uncomfortable.
Basically all my lines are about 6" too long, but I didn't want to change right away until I knew I like the riding position.
The idle and accelerator cables actually don't seem to be too long and there is more room to manipulate them. My clutch cable bows out a little in front of my headlight. My brake line is defintely too long and this can be dangerous. What I did to prevent binding was cable tie it to the idle and accelerator lines.
But, I will be changing the lines. I don't think it's too difficult to find cheaper replacement lines on ebay. There is a place I found that I'm trying to work a deal onSST clutch cable and brake line:

The Harley wish book has all the dimensions on the cables and such so you can size yours up to a different sportster model to get an idea of difference in length.
