Show Off That Sportster

Packgrog,
On your bike that should be a chrome cover on your oil tank, so you can remove it and have the black tank look. It's a PITA though. I removed mine to check out the condition of the black finish on the tank and there was a rub mark, so I put the cover back on.

Similar to how it was all nasty under the rear master cylinder cover, so I put that back on. May still remove it if I can clean up underneath it enough. It's ugly no matter what. *shrug*

I tried examining if it was just a cover before putting her in storage last year, but didn't spot the connections at first glance. Felt like it might just be a cover. Will dig into the service manual later to get a better idea of what to look for.

Needed to check, but seems like I have not contributed to this thread. So here you go, 1991 XLH 1200 that I bought new with my Father, February 1991. She doesn't get much use these days, but since last year I have been making a point to keep her lubed up and ready to go. Just did new fork seals and a front brake rotor. Running great, still like riding this bike, fast and nimble.

That is the stock gauge setup just turned upside down, and inside out!!!! Stock riser clamp as well, just tall risers, the rest is repurposed stock parts. Hardest part was re-wiring the front half of the bike. All the wires originally terminated in the headlight bucket, now everything is under the gas tank thanks to a homemade tank lift. Headlight is the stock unit from my Wide Glide, again re-purposed. Chopped the rear fender because it was dented from a rear end accident in about 1994, so that was the easy cheap fix. Coil bracket is also homemade, could not find one for a bike this old. Bullet turn signals have been back there since the 90's, I ditched the fronts completely when I re-wired. Mirrors are stock take offs from a newer bike, with some PlastiDip to make them black. overall not a lot of money in the bike, just trying to keep her clean and current. Not worth selling, all I am going to get is $2.5k on a good day, rather just keep her for that kind of money. Thanks for looking.

Huh. Interesting. I kind of hate the chrome oil tank on mine. Too much damn bling on my bike. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like I can remove that bit of unnecessary bling from my Sporty. I've already taken off the headlight eyebrow cover, the intake cover emblem (which I do like but REALLY don't need) the cover for the front master cylinder, might still remove the one over the rear master cylinder (kinda rusty/dirty under there), kind of want to remove them from the rear fender supports, etc. I mean, sure the extra shiny stuff makes me more visible, but it's a bit much.
