Default WTF its BS

I cannot believe the BS im being handed dealer tells me middle of AUG to do my 1000 mile service and it will take 4-5 days when I drop it off. I thought thats why we made appointments not to let them sit on it till they get good and ready.

Then the service smuck asks how many miles I have I say 1100 he tells me that I need to do this service before 1200 miles and If i want I can just drop off bike and when they get to it they will do it no garentees on how long.

For god sake I realise its the busy season for them but, I'm paying them they need to get thier act together they are not paying me.

Anyways rant over does 1000 mile service have to be done by a authorised HD mech what gets done and what should I do to maintain warrenty?

Buy the manual and do it yourself. Keep the reciepts as proof for your warranty.

The only thing "critical" for warranty at the 1000 mile service is the oil change service. Easy to do yourself, keep the oil and filter receipts and document the mileage. Then if they don't get to it until 1500-1600 miles "no problem". If your 1K service isn't pre-paid, try taking the bike to an Indy. It won't void the warranty.

Do it yourself, spend a few hours with your bike, go over it using the manual save your receipts and get back on the road!

Just had my 5k service done at Legend HD in Wenatchee, WA. $230.00 & 3 hours. They also loaned me an 03 Deuce to tool around on while I was waiting. Legend HD took over this dealership in Jan. 07 and they have been nothing but a pleasure to deal with since. There really are some decent dealers left out there.

had my thousand mile service, and all subsequent services done at a local indie shop. I recommend you do the same. The guys I use both worked at the local harley dealership for years as well as r&r cycles. Tons of experience. I like taking my bike to them as I know THEY will be working on it, and not an 18 year old newbie.

Cheaper and quicker turn around.

The only thing the HD techs lied about was your wait time..........try doubling or tripling that. YOull get your bike back in 2-3 weeks. Bunch of bastards.

If you want it done right, do it yourself. I took mine in for the 1000 because someone told me I should for warranty. I had to add a half qt of oil when I got it back. I did my 5000 and my fork bearings took almost half tube of grease. I know they didn't do that at all on my 1000 or I would have only needed a few pumps at most.

that is a sad state of affairs... my stealer does most while you wait. free coffee and stuff. plenty of good info around and the job is right when done. In fact everyday between 8am and 9am if you have issue (call) and if they can fit you in all you gotta do is get the bike there. big stuff....sure takes a few days but never 2 or3 weeks unles tghey don't have part(very rare)
