NO warrenty work on ANY vehicle EVER has to be done by the dealer or any other mechanic. You can even do the work yourself and as long as you keep record there isn't a problkem.
I thought this was common knowledge.

Just had my 5k service done at Legend HD in Wenatchee, WA. $230.00 & 3 hours. They also loaned me an 03 Deuce to tool around on while I was waiting.

It sounds too good to be true!
I have to say, my dealer only charged me formaterials when my 1000 mile was completed. It was around $35.00 or so. They have been great to work with as well (just no bike to tool around on though). I am jealous!

My 1000 mile service took 4 days. Wasn't THAT big of a deal. My dealer services all the city police department Harleys and all of their techs are older and experienced so I'll gladly pay them to do my service. My dealer is othing but a friend that charges by th book Harley gives them. Thats fine by me.

Don't cha just love the HD stealers. I would recommend having the 1,000 mile service done at the dealership. I would also repeat go ahead and change the oil yourself. Then buy the service manual, and learn some new skills.
Depending on where you live, and the number of dealerships in the area, if you have a dealer that is in a smaller town, their service department is usually not as busy, and they understand "customer service" a hell ofa lot more than most HD stealers.
Good Luck.

I'm still a firm believer that competition drives down costs and improves quality. I livein central NJ and there are four dealers near me that I visit fairly regularly (and several others not much farther away), All four of them have first-come-first-serve service on Saturday mornings. I always drop my bike off when they open in the morning and have never had to wait much past 11:00 to get my bike back. 1000/5000 mile service runs $205-215 depending on which dealer I go to (plus extra for syn oil).

I went to Ocean State (Warwick)this week, I was told a day and a half. Bike returned same day. I heard Exeter Ocean State has a one day return. Personally, I think it's B.S. Where did you attempt to make the appointment?
