How much do you use your rear brake?

RE: How much do you use your rear brake?
Motorcycle safety bodies around the world encourage the general use of both brakes, firmly and progressively. How much pressure applied to the front versus the rear will generally depend on the road and weather conditions. I follow that rulewithout thinking now and don't plan to change anytime soon!

Oh, and when sitting at a red traffic light with cars stillapproaching from behind, I was advised to sit withmy foot on the footbrake in case of a rear shunt. It'll help to avoid the bike being cartwheeled over. You'd still be in a world of hurt, but perhaps not with the bike lying on top of you.
Obviously, another option is to be ready to accellerate forward and out of the way of a potential shunt, but the danger there is thatyou'll end up in the path of another vehicle. At least the rear brake option helps toreduce therisk of serious injury ...
