After getting back from a trip to milwaukee, I was able to make a little more headway on the bobber build. I pulled the motor and drilled some holes in the frame for some gusset welds. Put the motor back in to ensure it was straight and tacked it.
getting the frame to the point of welding is actually a longer process than I thought it’d be. Maybe I was taking more time to because of the fear of it being crooked. Luckily after all the welding the motor popped in perfectly and the frame is straight as can be!
I had to cut some tabs off the gas tank so it’d fit. I’m contemplating a 1 to
1-1/2” tank lift. I don’t know yet??? I found a nice raw metal sporty rear fender with no holes in it. I’m going to cut the sides off along the crease and put it as close to the tire as possible.
not sure what is next. Oil tank needs to be done as well as handlebars and I need to figure the exhaust out. I’m struggling with finding a seat too. I’m not sure if I want 1 or 2” springs or if I want the seat to rest right on the frame.

Man you must have a rubber spine to even think of no springs at all. I would have to visit the chiropractor after every ride.
I like the look and lines of hard rails, but could never ride one.
A good solo seat with small "shocks" on it is actually quite comfortable. In my 50's I rode thousands of miles on the bike below, (which was essentially a hardtail with the struts) and it rode more comfortably with This Seat than it did with the stock seat and suspension.
I'm in my 60's now and the SBS Chop I'm working on is a hardtail and the solo seat on it has even more suspension on it (over 4" of travel). I expect it will ride much more comfortably than any stock Sporty being made.
