Has anyone tried to use Oil Cooler Kit p/n 62700082 on Sportster?
Does it practically help to improve engine longevity and oil condition?

 

Oil coolers do help alot with our air cooled motors. But to really take advantage of them, get one of the oil coolers that has a fan.

 

I chose to go with the Jagg version. Here's a few pictures;

We run the XR 1200 sportster cooler cores on all of our bikes and have been for years ...being a 7 row in stead of 6 like the jegg ...it;s slightly larger but not as big as the 10 row jeggs .
removed the stock small cooler mounted under the front engine mount, to keep it from getting banged up from rocks kicked up from front wheel (harley trying to hide the cooler ) ....
along with the cooling fans ...we see a 45-50 degree temp change cooler on the power vision ( can test just by turning the fans on and off ) ...just dont understand why you would want to run a cooler cover over the core ..you are trying to dissipate heat ...not keep it in !!!

It couldn't hurt but I've been riding motorcycles for about 50 years without them without a problem.

 

I have a Jagg 10 row oil cooler kit. Have not installed it yet.
The Jagg "kits" include a thermostat to only cool the oil after it gets to about 190 F.
Great if you ride in temps below 60F.

Unless you run long distances at highway speeds (>70 mph here in the US) at temps in the 85+ F ambient temp range your oil will not normally get above "normal operating temp" HD shows that as 230 F in the service manual.

 

I have the Jaggs oil cooler on mine. I liked the fact it has a thermostat that doesn't open until oil temps reach 185* or so, as the Harley kit doesn't have one. I was seeing oil temp as high as 250*F on HOT days at Interstate speeds, now I'm lucky to see 220*F under those same conditions. Totally worth the money IMO.

If you choose to go with an oil cooler, Jagg is the best. We have a variety of Jagg Coolers at great pricing. You can see them HERE.

I've run the 6 Row and the 10 Row on my Sportys. They both work well.

Another option that will cool down your oil AND make for faster, easier, cleaner oil changes is an Oil Filter Relocation Kit. You can see them HERE.

Both are the best option, but on a Sportster, if I could only do one, I would do the Oil Filter Relocation. Below is a photo of my Sporty with one-

 

Thank you guys. Now i have to choose from these option, and I have time for decision till next summer.
Winter time in UAE is awesome for riding, but hot summer begins about April.

 

I am more concerned about standing in traffic jams.
I remember once in hot summer back in Ukraine (about 36C in shadow, but road in much hotter for sure), me with my wife have got into traffic jam on small Honda CB125e. Moving slowly further through congestion i saw more and more cars with hood up and puddle of coolant beneath. I felt as hot oil became like a water: engine's rattle became louder and gears switching louder as well. But engine did not overheat, did not jam, and we got away from congestion successfully, so i believe in air-cooled engines
But there was small secret: a bit bigger jets in carburetor, allowing engine to run smoother and cooler on somewhat richer mixture.
