I have not done any service to my sportster yet, but i am sure that on any machinery it's the same: even if some operation requires to drain all oil out, then you can drain it into clean container, and then pour it back inside.

I wouldn't worry about trying to catch it to "reuse it" cause it's gonna run over (make a mess) on the engine case...
Have a catch-pan under the front. Sometimes I use a disposable paint tray (cause its cheap and shallow)
from HomeDepot since I'm a bit messy.
good luck,
T.

Yours is the only other bike I've seen with the Kuryakyn (whatever they call it) between the cylinders besides mine. I removed the mesh and added an HD medallion.

Curious, what is the hose coming from in between the cylinders running down the side of the bike? Crankcase vent?

Since you've added a cooler, you are obviously concerned with heat....
Just an observation, those "sparkplug covers" will affect the airflow cooling to the heads
(just a reititeration from LoveJugs test recommendations)

I'm trying to not get my hopes too high but if that thing brings the oil temp down to 210* from 240* when I'm sitting in traffic, I'll happily camp in traffic... 240* in the side oil tank, so you can imagine how bad it is in the engine...

That temp drop should be achievable.
