Oil cooler kit
#11
I bought the HD oil cooler in year 2007.
Installation (instructions) and fit were good.
Noting, use proper sealant where the lines screw into the engine additionally
where the clutch cable rubber shield snaps onto the cooler bracket is "funky"
Does it make a difference?
For me it was the addition oil capacity I liked.
Yes at speed the cooler is working to cool the engine oil.
At idle, well more capacity to slow down heat.
Only you can decide if the cost is worth the price.
I don't think installation of a cooler does any harm and actually installation gets all positives.
I'd agree for stop and go and idle, those fan operated coolers may be a better option.
Good luck in your decision.

I am more concerned about standing in traffic jams.
I remember once in hot summer back in Ukraine (about 36C in shadow, but road in much hotter for sure), me with my wife have got into traffic jam on small Honda CB125e. Moving slowly further through congestion i saw more and more cars with hood up and puddle of coolant beneath. I felt as hot oil became like a water: engine's rattle became louder and gears switching louder as well. But engine did not overheat, did not jam, and we got away from congestion successfully, so i believe in air-cooled engines
But there was small secret: a bit bigger jets in carburetor, allowing engine to run smoother and cooler on somewhat richer mixture.

Also, you may find the REPORT LINK on cooling you bike down to be useful. It is primarily about Twin Cams and M8's, but given your situation, much of it applies to Sportsters also, including these FANS , down toward the bottom of the second page..

12 volts from the battery.
The Fan Assist is mounted to the Oil Cooler and pulls a Full 75cfm across the oil cooler, automatically turning on when oil temp hits 210*F. The WeatherTek Fan is dust tight and water proof. It is designed to give the same cooling benefits in slow traffic as highway riding.
You can see more photos and all the details HERE.

Definitely counting on this product to make a difference, although I just changed engine oil last week. I don't want to waste oil by installing the cooler and redoing the oil change right now. So I'll have to wait a bit before installing the cooler.
