Air filter question
#2
Hello old chap, from a short ride away! Our International spec bikes have to meet tighter noise regulations than US spec bikes, hence have slightly different air filter, also quieter silencers (US bikes have mufflers!!). If you look at Ronnies parts website you will see there is an additional backplate for International models only, #29360-04.
When I bought my first Harley, back in the '70s, our bikes were the same spec as US models (even came with a 'wrong' dipping headlight), but by the time I bought my 1990 Glide (both new), it was laden with quietening features, even had a baffle in the inlet manifold!

The setup you have is the Screaming Eagle Stage 1 air cleaner assembly and it does away with the snorkel backing plate. I have the exact setup on my Sportster except I routed the breathers out of the air box and under the bike.

No it's not an SE carb . Why on earth would anyone wish to avoid detection ? Detection of what ? Maybe someone left the 1200 Roadster badge on for the benefit of those who don't know that the tank design is exclusive to the 1200 R .

Not everyone wants to draw attention to mods, that is all! I used an SE air filter on an earlier bike and didn't see any reason to fit the SE sticker, not least because it doesn't actually add much extra GO!
