Thumbs up Sportster Chain Conversion

What are you guys running? Can I find a good kit or do I have to piece together sprockets and chains? Im not sure what tooth sprockets to get, my sporty is going to be an around town bike but I would like it to have some get up and go, so lower end torque/power I guess is what id like? It wont be used on the freeways or on longer trips, my dyna will do that.

I bought a Lowbro kit for my 07, it was the cheapest ( in price ) that I found, and it worked perfect. Here it is on my 07 flat tracker.

This month's issue of Cycle Source magazine has an artical doing a chain conversion. I think it's a Lowbrow Customs conversion kit.

You can get any chain you want since the kit doesnt come with one, but you can buy the chain at the same time.
I cant remember how many links, since mine has 15 inch shocks and 19 inch rear tire. I just bought a chain splitter and did it myself. The seat comes in a black gel coat that wont match vivid black, it does not have the shine.

What's the purpose of going chain for more off line performance? Just swap to 883 primary drive gearing to do the same thing. Seems to me the chain would be heavier.

The chain kit removes alittle weight when you also count the lighter sprockets. The chain gives you alittle more room for clearances when modifications to suspension and wheels and tires. Also easier and cheaper to change and or repair.. plus it just plain looks better. Drawback is it will throw crap on your wheel. I use the X ring chain and love it.

I am not so sold on the looks, unless its for a tracker or scrambler. Plus I like the cleaner, less maint belt for the road.
