Default Fuel leak?

On my 2006 sportster I have a suspicion that I have a fuel leak or seep in or around my carburetor. First thing that got my attention is went from 110 miles roughly to 75 miles roughly until I had to switch to reserve. Second I've been smelling some fuel. I did a quick check of the fuel line at the tank and also the breather line on the right side of the tank. I looked behind the air filter but did not take it off as of yet. The carb looks slightly damp but getting no puddles of fuel. My first thought is maybe the float is sticking? I'm no mechanic when it comes to carbs so just looking for some ideas before I get into it.

Default

I would not ride the bike with a fuel leak until you fix it.. While you are checking your float, check/replace your float needle. Mine once was not seating properly and it spewed fuel.
