newb installing drag bars.
Just bought a 2000 xl 1200 sportster. I purchased drag bars and when i was about to reinstall
I reliezed the brake line was metal. Has anyone every converted it to a soft line or is there a stock replacement. If so list some parts number, instructions, anything to help get a better understanding. Also, are risers needed or is that just for comfort. Thanks for any help. Shawn

RE: newb installing drag bars.
I have a 2000 883 and the main front brake line is a hard line like your 1200 i cant really help you about a soft line conversion but i dont see why you couldnt.... On the other hand i can tell you that you dont need risers My drag bars are set to go on monday and my dealer said risers and the fairing dont play nice together and i'd hafta pay more for a new speedometer and such and that it would be a lot more labor and that w/o risers they need to relocate the turn signals to the forks (but i wanted that anyway), also i didnt want to spend anymore than the 750$ that i spent having them installed at the dealer
risers=new speedo mount and such more labor, but more comfort
no risers=less labor, less comfort, less parts to buy
(says the dealer)
i like the tighter of the bars right above the top tree look w/o the risers anyhow but thats just me

RE: newb installing drag bars.
I have a 1993 XL 1200, ha the original mini apes on it, I removed hem and installed drag bars, the newer styled grips (they say they don't fit, but a minor treatment with a dremel for the clutch side grip and it goes on like hot cakes. I spent 23 on the risers, 25 on the bars, 70 on the grips, and some misc parts at the hadware store to remount the speedo and turn signals, I had to use risers or my bars I think would have hit the tank in turns. So I spent a couple hours installing, I did bend the stock line, like you were talkin about to get by for now, but I will get a new line this winter, I have what $133 dollars invested to take 10 years off my bike. pipes, air filter and forward controls are next, they are all on order
