Buy the parts online and find a fellow rider to help.

Get the parts and service manual and do it yourself. If you can use a socket wrench and read a book you can do it. I just did my first set last month and was nervous too. But take your time, read the manual and protect the paint and you'll be fine. It really isn't that hard, just time consuming (set aside a weekend for your first time, after that it will go quicker). I will never pay a dealer for 8 hrs of work for that again.

There is an old joke about a maintenance worker at a factory retiring. Soon after a critical machine in the plant stopped working, no one could figure out how to get it started back up. They called up the retired working and he said, "Nope, I'm retired", they said "We'll pay you whatever you want" So the old guy came in, looked at the machine, pushed one button and it started right up. He then handed the plant manager a bill for $10,000. The plant manager said "I'm not paying $10,000 for you pushing a button, and I want an itemized bill of the work you did" Old guy came back with a bill that said: Item #1 Pushing Button $10.00, Item $2 Knowing Which Button to Push $9,990.00.

You can learn to do the work yourself, or you can pay someone else to do it. The parts aren't that expensive to put new handlebars on, but it does take time, for Mini Apes all the wiring, throttle, brake and clutch cables need to be extended or replaced. It's not difficult work.

Harley has a huge PDF you can download that shows which cables you need for which bars, they also have some sample modified bikes on their website, Go to the 883 Iron page, scroll down to the sample bikes, they have a parts list of what they used on them,

They don't call it the stealership for nothing.

You can do it yourself. Unless it is daily transportation to get back and forth to work, then take it slowly, but go ahead and dive it and do it..

While you're attacking it, ask all the questions you need from everyone you can.

Also, once the bars are in place, you will be able to tell how much longer the cables need to be, how much additional wiring you will need. So if time is not an issue, you don't need to order everything up front.

It ain't rocket science, so the average guy who can turn a bolt without stripping it can do things like this. And as handirifle said, get someone to give you a hand if needed.

Once you successfully complete your project, you'll be LOOKING for something else to do.

Get an FSM while you're at it.

I don't know what year your bike is, but you can get wiring extension kits from these guys.
