I miss the sporty, but when I am cruising on the freeway at 75+ and its buttery smooth, I remember why I sold it. Even for my short trips into town (25 miles each way) and maneuvering in town, I realize I prefer this bike. The only advantage I miss is the sporty is a little easier to move around when I am walking it.

At this point, if I ever stepped back down in bike size, it would still prob be to a Dyna. That 6 speed makes all the difference to me. HD should have done that years ago.
handirifle, I am with you there. Every car, snowmobile or motorcycle I have owned was sorted out and modified to my liking, then I would I sell it? I loved building the Sportster maybe more than riding it? So I am always on the look out for the next project. Like you, I find the FLHTC-I way more comfortable and easier to ride any distance than the Sporty so the Sportster was my errand bike. Which was great. Like I said earlier, I wouldn't have sold it if it was not for finding this Ural deal. Again like you looking at Dyna's, I have been looking at EVO Fatboys for me next build? I have seen some running bikes under $4,000 which would work for a project. However, if I find another Sportster for the right money? G.B.

Might consider getting a new front tire though...

Congrats!

Thanks WKNDS! Its a decent example but not cosmetically perfect. But with Russian quality and materials its pretty nice, haha. Oh yeah, I have 4 new tires that I am putting on over the winter here as (3) of them were original with 7,000 miles on the bike. G.B.

Yeah the Russians round up to 750 CC. I think it is like 42 hp with a 4 speed transmission pushing around 800 lbs without rider? It makes my FLHTC-I seem like a sport bike, haha.

So with the 2WD, you can actually ride around in the snow right?

thanks,

Walter Davidson rode a motorcycle to work everyday, a sidecar rig when it snowed.

Looks very solid, coming from one that was a sceptic before. I'd say you are well on your way to achieving your goal. Looks fantastic. I am jealous.

Are the rear shocks 14"? How much ground clearance does it have? Did you say before, what fender/tail light setup you are going to use?
Yep-I'm jealous too-that looks great. Been looking for a mid life crisis sporty to scoop up on the cheap too.

Good luck on the cheap part. Seems those days are gone.
