Is the Sportster REALLY the fastest HD?

To me its either a HD or a BUELL or its nothing. If Erik Buell was as good as marketer as he is designer he'd open a chain of small micro dealerships (3-5 employees) in about 25 major American cities and just sell the the XB9 & 12 for 10k & 12.5k respectively. He'd make millions. The same for HD. They need to reduce to 3-5 models w/ 1-2 versions of each. If they don't cut the fat and reduce the corp. bloat they will go under or be owned by a chinese group of investors in less than decade

I totally agree!! Although, some people like to use the term quick. I refer to Sportsters as being explosive in the Harley World. Plus, I always hear people say sportys are great “beginner” bikes, because they’re light weight.. To me, they are NOT beginner bikes. And the fact that they’re light weight and quick, is more dangerous than anything. Plus, they’re top-heavy compared to other Harley’s. My 883 Sporty “Medusa” isn’t a bike for everyone. Mostly because sportsters are known as race bikes. Personally, I think beginners need a Harley with a lower center of gravity.
Having a 09 FXD and a 06 Roadster I’d have to agree the 1200 Sportster is not so much a beginner bike. Let the clutch go on a 1200, you’re flying. Higher center of gravity than a Dyna or Softail. I find the Dyna easier to ride at low speed, more stable at high speed. More relaxed at high speed due to longer wheel base and sixth gear. You guys just talked me out of selling my FXD

Anyway we love them as is. And this gives us some space for upgrades.

rich56, looking at your pictures the height dimensionally look very similar. Where is the Sportster getting its higher CoG from?
Do you know what the rake and trail of both bikes is?
ETA: After doing some searching I will save you the trouble...
The rake angle on the dyna is more than the Sportster. This will account for the apparent high speed stability and the feeling of a lower CoG. The steering on the Sportster will be a bit sharper and have a feeling of less stability.

I am new to the HD crowd and have been reading these forums since I got my Sportster a few months ago.
Y'all talk like the Sportster is faster than other HD's.
Now, I haven't researched all the specs and I haven't riden other HDs.
So, is what you guys say true or is it just bragging?
Cause mine seams pretty damn quick to me and I know I got a big motor in a lighht frame.
But what is the TRUTH?
