Default Electrical grief - brakes

I'm banging my head against the wall here. 2003 Hugger.

Turn bike on. All electrical works. Brake light is on. Squeeze front brake, brake light dims. Press back brake - nothing happens.

Is the rear brake pressure switch kaput? Or is there a greater problem afoot?

Thanks in advance,

Cannon

Did you replace your grips recently?

No, why is that? Should I be taking the switches apart?

Two possibles:

1- Front brake switch is bad; stays "closed" all the time.

2- Short in wiring causing power to brake light all the time; not likely since light dims when front brake handle squeezed.

Start with checking that front switch.

This all is predicated on you mean the brake light stays on when "Press back brake - nothing happens."

That is correct; thank-you. The light is already on, and stays on when I depress the rear brake.
